THE OSPREY TRIO BIOS
Kathryn Master, flute, earned her bachelor’s degree in music education from West Virginia University, and her master’s degree in flute performance at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The New York Times reviewed her debut at Carnegie Recital Hall with “impressive…solid playing and lively.” She has been a soloist with the Contemporary Music Ensemble in New York, the New Jersey Garden State Orchestra, the Butler Symphony, and the American Wind Symphony. She is the founder of the Inwood Arts Ensemble performing chamber music extensively in the New York City area. Her recent appearances include solo and chamber music concerts with the Smithsonian’s Steinway Series in Washington, D.C., and community concerts in Baltimore, MD. Ms. Master publishes her arrangements of music for flute at www.masterflute.com. She has recently moved to Sarasota, Florida with her husband, Rev. Daniel Pendergrass.
Christopher Schnell, cello, has been Assistant Principal Cello of the Sarasota Orchestra and cellist of the Sarasota Piano Quartet since 1995. In the summer, he is a cellist for The Santa Fe Opera. He is originally from Moorestown, NJ, and received his Bachelor of Music from Temple University in Philadelphia, after which he was a fellow at the New World Symphony in Miami Beach. He has been a member of the Florida Philharmonic and the Milwaukee Symphony, and has been a frequent substitute in the Philadelphia Orchestra. Locally, he has performed at numerous churches and with many ensembles, such as Sarasota Ballet, Sarasota Opera, Key Chorale, Gloria Musicae, and the Sarasota-Manatee Bach Festival. He lives in Sarasota with his wife and two daughters.
Joyce Valentine, piano, graduated from the Juilliard School with a Bachelors of Music Degree and received her Masters of Music Degree from the Conservatory of Music at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Appearances as soloist with orchestra include the Kansas City Philharmonic, Kansas City Civic Orchestra, St. Joseph Symphony, Hartford Symphony, New Haven Symphony, Sarasota Pops Orchestra, Northport Orchestra, and Venice Symphony. Reviews include: “an impressive debut…the Ginastera was brisk, centered, propulsive and altogether thrilling, capped with a slam-bang finale that brought the house down.” (New York Times); “she can make the piano weep or set it on fire, and deftly conveys every mood in between” (Solo Piano Publications). She has recently released two CDs: Reunion, with music for piano and cello, and A Valentine Christmas, original piano arrangements of traditional carols. Since moving to Bradenton Florida in 2001 Joyce has been an active soloist, chamber music performer, and musical director for theater productions. She is currently on the adjunct music faculty at State College of Florida and maintains a private teaching studio in her home.
