Kathryn Master, Flutist

Ms. Master gave her debut recital at Carnegie Recital Hall in New York City in 1982. She has since been performing as soloist and in chamber groups and orchestras across the eastern United States. She has been a soloist with the Contemporary Music Ensemble in New York, the New Jersey Garden State Orchestra, the Butler Symphony, and the American Wind Symphony. She is the founder of the Inwood Arts Ensemble and performed chamber music extensively in the New York City area.

Ms. Master studied with Julius Baker, Robert Cole and Kay Borkowski. She holds a master's degree in applied flute from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a bachelor's degree in music education from West Virginia University. She has taught flute at Dickinson College and Wagner College. She has recorded the BachSonata in b minor as well as many of her own arrangements of favorite hymns. She presently lives in Baltimore with her husband, Rev. Daniel Pendergrass, where she maintains a private teaching studio, publishes arrangements of music for flute at www.masterflute.com, and plays both as soloist and in various chamber music settings.

Ms. Master is available as a soloist with orchestra, for chamber music and for solo recitals. Solo recital repertoire includes a wide range of baroque to contemporary music, with an emphasis on the music of J.S. Bach and the great 20th century music for flute by composers such as Copland, Messiaen, Muczynski, Prokofiev, Vine and others. Her programs include Celtic, American folk and jazz elements with works by Gershwin, Confrey, Foster and others. Repertoire with orchestra includes Mozart's Concerti in G and D, Pergolesi's Concerto in G, J.S. Bach's Suite in b minor, and Ernst Bloch's Suite Modale.
